Nutritional Information
Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 7 grams of soluble fiber per day from psyllium husk, as in Metamucil, may reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol. One adult serving of Metamucil Powder has 2.4 grams of this soluble fiber. Consult a doctor if you are considering use of this product as part of a cholesterol-lowering program.

How it Works
Metamucil® is different than clear-mixing fiber supplements, because it has psyllium fiber.
We mixed both Metamucil and the leading clear-mixing fiber, containing wheat dextrin, with the recommended amounts of water. We then added cooking oil, dyed red, to both, to represent cholesterol. The psyllium fiber found in Metamucil gels and traps the oil like a sponge. The clear-mixing fiber does not. That's how Metamucil works in your body.
As the psyllium fiber enters your stomach, it forms a gel that traps and helps gently remove waste and some cholesterol. Clear-mixing fibers, like wheat dextrin, don't work like this.
Compare fibers today, and choose the fiber supplement that gels, traps, and removes—Metamucil.
It's different because it gels. It's Metamucil.
Why Metamucil?
Not All Fibers Are Created Equal
Metamucil® is the only leading fiber supplement brand that contains 100% natural psyllium fiber, giving you an unmatched range of health benefits.* And as for those other leading fiber supplement brands, there’s no competition—only Metamucil has the power of psyllium fiber.
Studies suggest that the psyllium in Metamucil works differently to give you multiple health benefits.
- The psyllium fiber in Metamucil acts like a sponge.
- It absorbs some cholesterol.
- Then, it gently removes waste from your system.
Why Metamucil Is Better
When the psyllium fiber in Metamucil is compared to the wheat dextrin fiber in Benefiber**, it's easy to see—you get more health benefits with Metamucil.

* Based on published clinical data as of August 2009.
** Benefiber is a registered trademark of Novartis.*** Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 7 grams of soluble fiber per day from psyllium husk may reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol. One serving of Metamucil psyllium powder or capsules has at least 2.1 grams of this soluble fiber. Use as directed.
† Metamucil psyllium powder and capsules are indicated for treating occasional constipation and cholesterol lowering. Use as directed.
†† Based on Wolters Kluwer fiber supplement survey and Pharmacy Times 2009 survey.
